OpenText and Google Cloud to Deliver AI, Modernization Solutions

The News: OpenText and Google announced the expansion of their existing partnership, which combine OpenText’s information management solutions and Google Cloud’s AI capabilities to deliver new generative AI applications. The companies also announced the introduction of OpenText Core for Google Workspace and the ability to accelerate the mainframe-to-cloud migration journey via solutions such as Google Cloud Dual Run. Analyst Take: OpenText and Google announced the expansion of a multifaceted partnership that includes new generative AI applications, Google Cloud Vertex AI-powered insights, and the introduction of modernization solutions designed to help organizations migrate from the mainframe to the cloud. OpenText’s information management solutions and Google Cloud’s AI capabilities are being integrated to accelerate how organizations can surface insights quickly, boost productivity, and transform customer experiences.

Specifically, the new advancements that were introduced at Google Cloud Next include:

  • New generative AI applications: Co-innovations of new use cases that use Vertex AI and span R&D, application delivery, business support, sales and marketing, and more
  • OpenText Core for Google Workspace: Integrated collaboration, content management, and Google Cloud’s Vertex AI-powered insights for a seamless digital employee experience
  • Cloud migration journey acceleration: For customers on mainframe infrastructure utilizing solutions such as Google Cloud Dual Run

New Generative AI Use Cases, Leveraging Google Cloud Vertex AI and the Palm2 LLM

OpenText in August announced opentext.ai, its companion-based assistant that uses Google Cloud Vertex AI and the Palm2 large language model (LLM) to address a range of use cases. In addition to automating level-one customer service and support tasks via conversational assistants and using generative AI to support auto-generated, personalized content using private customer data, OpenText announced two other novel use cases.

Organizations will be able to develop and deliver software applications quickly by applying LLMs to surface predictive product delivery insights, identify risks and gaps, and generate next-generation test cases with AI-generated test cases to quickly deliver high-quality software applications. This use case will have a drastic impact on enterprise customers who have been struggling with a talent shortage and increasing demands to roll out software more quickly and frequently due to competitive concerns, demands for more intuitive or efficient workflows, or the desire into integrate new technologies, such as AI, into software releases.

According to comments contained in the press release, Tal Levi Joseph, vice president of products and engineering for OpenText, said, “OpenText Application Delivery Management (ADM) is announcing an early access version of our new generative AI capabilities on the ValueEdge platform, which will be generally available in the fall with our Cloud Editions 23.4 release.”

OpenText and Google also announced an interesting use case that focuses on simplifying sales enablement. The company announced that with Google Cloud Vertex AI, future AI capabilities of OpenText Aviator on the Content Cloud will include the onboarding of new sales representatives by utilizing conversational assistants powered by LLM to find, retrieve, and generate relevant product training.

OpenText Announces Intelligent Workspaces for Enterprises via Google Workspace

Building on the previous general availability announcement of OpenText Core for Google Workspace, the OpenText Content solution that is combined with Google Cloud’s suite of collaboration tools, Google Workspace customers will now be able to easily access, manage, and edit documentation across repositories and applications for any business process, including hire-to-retire for HR, procure-to-pay for finance, and design-to-market for R&D, for example.

This announcement illustrates that OpenText and Google understand a major challenge faced by knowledge workers. Enterprises use a large number of systems and applications, and without a unifying architecture or method for accessing this information, workers are often forced to open several applications, and toggle between them to find and use the information they need. OpenText Core for Google Workspace looks to be a key enabler in improving workflow and productivity, as it should increase worker productivity while potentially improving security, as workers will not need to copy and paste information between systems.

On paper, this seems like a great solution to a continuing problem; very few organizations can consolidate onto a single technology platform. But the success of the Google Workspace and Core Content solution will depend on how well these systems and data sources are connected. To ensure better outcomes, OpenText is teaming up with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), a preferred partner, to help customers implement their Google Workspace and Core Content solution tailored to their specific needs. This is a good move by OpenText and Google; the success of any solution is often tied to how quickly, efficiently, and effectively organizations can generate positive ROI.

Providing Cloud Migration Assistance Via OpenText and Google Cloud

Over the past 2 years, OpenText has partnered with Google Cloud to offer public cloud, private cloud, and cloud API services on Google Cloud. The two companies are also partnering to assist customers with modernizing off the mainframe with Google Cloud’s Dual Run solution, which now embeds OpenText Application Modernization solutions. This solution is designed to help customers mitigate risks involved in mainframe migrations and accelerate their migration to the cloud.

Despite the costs involved with migrating applications to the cloud, OpenText and Google can help organizations realize the additional flexibility and scalability benefits provided by cloud deployments. This is particularly pertinent now, as many vendors are focusing innovation and top feature sets only for customers that are using cloud infrastructure.
