Wainhouse Releases 2023 Market Sizing and Forecast for Enterprise Streaming Market

Analyst Take: 2022 proved to be an extraordinarily challenging year for vendors of streaming technology solutions that enable the creation, management and distribution of live and on-demand video on a one-to-many basis on corporate networks. While overall revenues for the market remained above the $1 billion mark for the segment, revenue totals for the segment declined for the second consecutive year. On the heels of the 7% decline reported in 2021, the enterprise streaming segment experienced a 6% year-over-year drop in total revenues in 2022.

Multiple factors contributed to the drop in segment revenues. Most notably, enterprise streaming vendors experienced elongated sales cycles in 2022 as corporate IT teams grew increasingly uncertain about implementing new video approaches as uncertainty over long-term policies regarding remote and hybrid work continued to linger through the year.

Anecdotal briefings conducted by Wainhouse since the beginning of the 2023 provide some glimmers of optimism for the market, as vendors report increases in “requests for proposals” from organizations considering the implementation of streaming video solutions. Despite this uptick in activity, Wainhouse is maintaining a cautious forecast posture for this market segment, reflecting the challenges experienced in recent years. Wainhouse projects that revenue for the enterprise streaming solutions and services market will be flat in 2023 when compared to 2022 results.

While little is changing in top-line market revenues, the industry – as a whole – continues to experience significant change. For the first time in 2022, revenues generated from cloud hosted solutions exceeded that coming from the sales of video tools deployed on-premises. The prevalence on cloud hosted solutions in expected to continue throughout the 5-year forecast period, with hosted solutions accounting for an overwhelming majority of industry revenues – well above 80% of all market activity – by 2027.

In the forecast report, Wainhouse breaks out revenue totals for enterprise streaming solutions on both an historic and forward-looking basis, with market revenue performance and projections presented for the years 2017 thru 2027. This report also breaks out revenue totals for cloud hosted and on-premises solutions as well as professional services revenues for the decade-long period.
