2023 State of the Market – Communications Platforms

Access the Market Study: 2023 State of the Market – Communications Platforms

A year-in-review summary and an explanation of The Futurum Group’s go-forward coverage of the Cloud Communication Platforms market.

The enterprise communication market is evolving from a collection of point solutions to a smaller set of cloud-based platforms providing for all of an enterprise’s communications needs – and go beyond the traditional capabilities of a cloud PBX or online meeting system. These platforms offer both employee experience (EX) and customer experience (CX) – in the form of meeting, enterprise calling, and messaging workloads, as well as extensions into the broader realms of customer experience (CX) and employee experience (EX). Today’s modern platforms consist of composable services that allow for the rapid creation of experiences to meet the evolving needs of knowledge and frontline workers.

This State of the Market report represents an inflection point in The Futurum Group’s coverage of the enterprise communication market. Traditionally we have covered voice calling, meetings, and messaging separately and created estimates of the market size in revenue and licenses for each distinct workload. However, as the market continues to evolve toward these platforms, measuring these standalone licenses and revenue numbers is increasingly difficult and decreasingly valuable. We believe that, increasingly, the value is in the platform and will seek to track the revenue and licenses sold at that level.

This report begins The Futurum Group’s coverage of this market segment. It includes definitions that serve as the foundation of this coverage, the state of platforms in the market, vendor rankings, market sizing and revenue estimates and the trends that will govern much of what happens in 2023 and the coming years.
