MWC: 2023: T-Mobile and Deutsche Telekom Introduce the T-Dev Edge Platform for Developers

Analyst Take: At MWC in Barcelona a few weeks ago, T-Mobile US and Deutsche Telekom’s announced the launch of T-Dev Edge, a platform with joint APIs, which will be welcome news for developers on both sides of the Atlantic who are looking for easy and simpler ways to create new, connected solutions. When every company everywhere is looking for a competitive edge, this gives developers using the T-Dev Edge platform just that, with a direct and simplified entryway to connectivity and other core network services which could well be a win for developing innovative solutions.

Siemens Energy Quality-on-Demand

The companies shared that one of the first to adopt the technology is Siemens Energy, who is using one of the new T-Dev Edge platform’s APIs for Quality-on-Demand to optimize its remote maintenance reducing travel time and maintenance turnaround time.

Siemens Energy shared that the company’s remote engineers can see augmented video in the HoloLens2 with minimal delay and in high res when using the Quality-on-Demand network API. They are also seeing reductions in travel time and in maintenance turn times, which are exactly the kind of results companies are looking for, especially in challenging macroeconomic times.

Microsoft Integrates with Azure

Microsoft has integrated the new T-Dev Edge platform network APIs onto Microsoft Azure Programmable Connectivity for easy deployment. Microsoft Azure provides the environment to run applications such as Siemens Energy Remote Assist by accessing the intelligence and programmability of mobile networks through network APIs on the backend. Microsoft is the first cloud provider to integrate the new set of T-Dev Edge platform network APIs into their cloud platform through the Microsoft Azure Programmable Connectivity Software Development Kit (SDK).

Deutsche Telekom shared that being able to share the capabilities of their networks directly with customers and also being able to make networks programmable and intelligent are attractive to customers, who quickly use the network APIs to quickly and easily access defined Quality-on-Demand attributes for mobile access data. This should spur innovation within the developer community worldwide, which is of course the goal. More developers, better tools, greater access means the next gen of apps will be developed more rapidly — and everybody wins on that front.

Bosch plans to start testing the T-Dev Edge platform network API solutions in automotive and other areas to improve customer satisfaction and provide a better answer to current global challenges.

Wrapping up, developers on both sides of the Atlantic are looking for easier and simpler ways to develop innovative technology solutions to meet the needs of their clients. The T-Dev Edge platform gives developers in the global community the tools they need to build the next generation of applications. It will be exciting to see what next gen applications they develop.
