Juniper Apstra: Enhancements Power Private Data Center Breakthroughs

Analyst Take: Juniper swiftly uplifts its Apstra proposition with the debut of new experience-first data center features, including simplified data collection and visualization through graph databases, tighter flow data integration from multivendor switches, and automated provisioning with Terraform. Now Juniper customers can use Apstra for intent-based networking and automated data center assurance with broader management capabilities that ensure private data centers have agile, flexible operations on par with cloud-based infrastructures.

From my perspective, the Juniper Apstra 4.2.0 release provides flow data capabilities and validated design assurances key to simplifying data center operations. The data flow capabilities obtain the granular information on network traffic flows critical to attaining the full network visibility essential to diagnosing and troubleshooting network issues with increased precision and bolstering the overall integrity of data center security.

Juniper Validated Design (JVD) offers the data center building blocks, prescriptive blueprints, and risk mitigation features – such as guides for products, features, and tools key to creating repeatable data center fabric designs – that provide the portfolio foundation required to power reliable and qualified deployments managed by Apstra.

Apstra’s diverse customer base, including high-profile organizations, such as Vodafone, T-Systems, Advania, Yahoo! Japan, and Atos, further attests to its track record and influence across the data center ecosystem. From my view, Apstra is the only multivendor, intent-based networking solution in the market today that can deliver breakthrough performance in Day 2+ operations with built-in cloud-like levels of efficiency.

As such, Juniper needs to continue executing on its Experience-First Data Center vision to further bolster Apstra’s sales and marketing momentum, particularly its Intent-based Networking proposition underpinned by ensuring closed-loop validation and making private data center operations as easy as the cloud experience.

In addition to the data flow and JVD features, the Apstra Terraform provider feature stands out. To automate network provisioning, Juniper offers a Terraform provider for Apstra that enables users to capitalize on common Terraform HCL to configure Apstra. Now users can automate data center configuration and documentation across multivendor data center network fabrics, swiftly integrating Apstra data center fabric management with Terraform as well as DevOps, infrastructure as code (IaC), and site reliability engineering (SRE) workflows.

In today’s landscape, data center operations play a crucial role in delivering business value as organizations prioritize accelerated delivery of data in full accord with managing costs and scaling flexibly. Organizations require simpler and more agile network operations across their evolving use cases in both public and private infrastructures. Apstra remains the only multivendor, intent-based networking solution on the market, empowering Juniper to deliver breakthrough performance in Day 2+ operations with built-in cloud-like levels of efficiency.
