Cloudera Acquires Eventador to Expand Stream Processing Capabilities

The News: This week, Cloudera has acquired Eventador, a provider of cloud-native services for enterprise-grade stream processing. Eventador, based in Austin, TX. The company was founded by Erik Beebe and Kenny Gorman in 2016 to address a fundamental business problem – make it simpler to build streaming applications built on real-time data. This typically involved a lot of coding with Java, Scala or similar technologies. Eventador simplifies the process by allowing users to use SQL to query streams of real-time data without implementing complex code. Analyst Take: Eventador isn’t a household name, but it will improve Cloudera’s CDP and DataFlow should make customers and analysts feel more positive about the company.

With organizations increasingly seeking to do more with data and improve time to insight, tools that can provide real-time event stream data provides an opportunity to not just expedite insights, but use more data from a wider swath of sources to deliver results for marketing, operations and finance.

Potential benefits and use cases stemming from the Eventador Acquisition

The acquisition of Eventador provides Cloudera with immediate strong use-cases across the organization. (Per the release)

  • Inventory optimization, predictive maintenance and a wide variety of IoT use cases for operations teams.
  • Personalized promotions and customer 360 use cases for sales and marketing teams.
  • Risk management and real-time fraud analysis for IT and finance teams.

As you can quickly tell, the potential is diverse for sales, marketing, finance and Operations. Also, I feel that real-time and greater observability are the areas to lean into for Cloudera users.

Of course, Cloudera’s focus over the past few years has been its migration to support not just on prem, but all variants of cloud from deployments of its tools on AWS and Azure to hybrid and private cloud deployments. This acquisition will build upon those capabilities delivering consistent DataFlow experiences for users no matter their data location. This is important, but also something I would expect for Cloudera to maintain its messaging to the market.

Overall Impressions of the Eventador Acquisition by Cloudera

Overall, I see the acquisition of Eventador as a vehicle to help Cloudera better support evolving customer needs, especially related to cross-organizational access to real-time data. This capability further enriches the Cloudera Data Platform and will deliver material improvements within the DataFlow experience.

While the acquisition may be seen as incremental or small in nature as Eventador isn’t yet a household name, the capabilities and improvements it has the potential to make for Cloudera shouldn’t be understated. A solid move by Cloudera to continue its momentum forward.

Welcome

The vision behind everything in Futurum’s Custom Research practice is this: research should show you what is happening, what comes next, and what to do about it. It should be personal to each audience, easy for people to grasp, and structured so LLMs can reason over it accurately. And it should be fast and turnkey; you want answers now, not another project to carry for quarters.

Whether you are defining business, channel, or go-to-market strategy; evaluating vendors or justifying ROI; or commissioning research to fill an emerging market need, we have your back, with a program that answers your questions with the objectivity and credibility to drive real decisions.

To do it, we bring unmatched data to bear: Futurum research, surveys, and market projections; validated market feeds; ETR’s 15 years of insight from 10,000 technology decision-makers; G2’s buyer and user data; and what our analysts hear every day. Add leading primary collection, from AI-moderated voice interviews to surveys and analyst-led interviews, all turnkey, and every project comes out credible, nuanced, and actionable.

And we don’t just drop the results in your lap. For internal work, we provide analyst-led sessions, interactive dashboards, and a range of formats. For market-facing work, Futurum delivers turnkey activation and amplification that actually gets seen, by people and by LLMs, through our media and share of voice. This is research that moves decisions and markets.

We will meet you wherever you are, from a fast-turn brief to a multi-year program, and shape the work to your goals, timeline, and budget. The right program for your moment.

If any of this is useful, I would love to talk.
