The News: StorMagic has unveiled immediate integration of Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud with StorMagic SvSAN for enhanced data availability, protection, and recoverability. This collaboration will help managed service providers (MSPs) to meet stringent recovery point and recovery time objectives and service levels for availability, while controlling costs. StorMagic and Acronis Unite for Enhanced Data Protection Solutions
Analyst Take: StorMagic SvSAN architecture is designed to provide high availability (HA) with minimal resources. Specifically, it provides active-active asynchronous replication between two servers, so that an exact data copy and server and storage infrastructure are available for immediate failover, should the primary environment experience a failure or otherwise go offline. This is notable because historically, HA configurations have been notoriously costly and complicated to architect, implement, and manage. For this reason, they have largely been reserved for mission-critical workloads, and generally difficult for smaller organizations to attain. SvSAN offers a simplified, more flexible, and cost-effective approach to HA – a hyperconverged configuration that only requires two x86 servers and a hypervisor for HA, with vSphere, Hyper-V, and KVM all supported, and multiple generations and types of servers and storage arrays able to be intermixed. This better empowers MSPs to meet stringent service levels for uptime and availability.
The integration with Acronis Cyber Protect complements the HA story with data backup and recovery, endpoint management, and security features such as vulnerability assessment and patch management. It is important to recognize that the release of Acronis Cyber Protect version 16 in February 2024 added several new and enhanced capabilities including simplified multi-site management, the ability to consolidate IT Operations tools with endpoint detection and response, and one-click data recovery, all of which further simplify data protection and cybersecurity operations for IT and security teams alike. It also added support for immutable backup copies that inhibit malicious tampering and extended anti-malware capabilities to better detect evolving threats such as AI-driven phishing attacks.
The integration of Cyber Protect and SvSAN paves a streamlined path for MSPs to more comprehensive cyber-resiliency, merging data protection and recoverability with system failover and business continuity. For the end customer, the result is greater resilience against the ongoing onslaught of cyber-attacks, and improved ability to meet the growing compliance requirements of data privacy legislation – especially for organizations working within tight budget constraints, and startup or smaller companies aiming to grow efficiently, with reliability and security.
