Honeywell and CygNet SCADA Partner on Advanced Emissions Management

The News: Honeywell and CygNet SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) are joining together to provide oil and gas facilities with advanced emissions management tools that can help them better discover, track, and monitor accidental emissions from their facilities as they work to refine their decarbonization strategies. The CygNet SCADA system from Weatherford International allows oil and gas operators to process information and operational data in real-time, while the Honeywell’s Emissions Management suite helps customers to measure, monitor, report, and reduce their errant emissions. Brought together under the partnership, the products will allow CygNet SCADA customers to bring these capabilities together more efficiently. Analyst Take: Emissions management is a huge concern for oil and gas facilities, pipeline operators, and other industries because oil and gas leaks mean cleanup costs, bad publicity, regulatory issues, and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) and sustainability compliance havoc. That is why this latest melding of technology from Honeywell and Weatherford’s CygNet unit will, I believe, have a major impact that can help these facilities and users better track, monitor, and catch these kinds of incidents almost as quickly as they occur.

Under the deal between Honeywell and Weatherford, the companies will bring together their respected technologies to make them both better and more flexible. In my view, this matchup is great, like bringing together chocolate and peanut butter to create Reese’s Peanut Butter cups. It just makes sense.

The CygNet SCADA platform from Weatherford already helps operators in the energy industry to process data and information in real-time for their operations, while Honeywell’s Emission Management suite provides a concise platform that allows customers to measure, monitor, report, and reduce their accidental emissions. By bringing both products together, the companies are providing an all-in-one offering that can make it easier and more efficient for oil and gas operators to meet their responsibilities and keep their operations running more smoothly and without harmful disruptions.

The beauty of this partnership is that it provides a scalable product that will provide instant information to oil and gas operators, which is critical because much of the physical operations are in remote areas where it can take some time for a repair crew to arrive to remediate any leaks and other problems. Together the CygNet SCADA platform and the Honeywell Emissions Management suite will gather and process data from onsite monitoring sensors within facilities and then determine what actions must be taken to resolve problems that are reported.

The CygNet SCADA platform collects the required data from a wide range of sources within an oil and gas facility, including from downhole sensors, electronic flow measurement (EFM) devices, wellheads, surface facilities, plants, and pipelines and then provides it instantly to plant operators. The CygNet platform provides information to users across a facility, from production to pipeline, regulatory managers, and others to allow them to analyze and prioritize their collected data.

For oil and gas operators, this combination of technologies and vendors will empower them to better react to any leaks that are detected and that must be fixed in the field, while giving customers the tools they need to meet their ESG and regulatory responsibilities.

Honeywell’s Emissions Management suite earlier this year received new features that allow the application to track and monitor Scope 2 emissions—the indirect emissions that come from purchased electricity and steam—giving operators more tools to aim for science-based targets that are designed to prevent the impacts of climate change, according to the company. Honeywell Emissions Management was launched in 2022, but the new Scope 2 features arrived in August.

Honeywell and CygNet SCADA Emissions Management Overview

This new partnership between these two companies is a smart move to help battle and quickly find and repair accidental oil and gas releases in production and distribution facilities around the world, using the tools and technologies of two trusted and longtime vendors. I am particularly happy to see these two vendors continuously improving and driving more out of their proven platforms. This shows true dedication, innovation, and responsibility in pushing their critical technologies to the limit in the pursuit of better monitoring, protections, and services for customers.

The vision behind everything in Futurum’s Custom Research practice is this: research should show you what is happening, what comes next, and what to do about it. It should be personal to each audience, easy for people to grasp, and structured so LLMs can reason over it accurately. And it should be fast and turnkey; you want answers now, not another project to carry for quarters.

Whether you are defining business, channel, or go-to-market strategy; evaluating vendors or justifying ROI; or commissioning research to fill an emerging market need, we have your back, with a program that answers your questions with the objectivity and credibility to drive real decisions.

To do it, we bring unmatched data to bear: Futurum research, surveys, and market projections; validated market feeds; ETR’s 15 years of insight from 10,000 technology decision-makers; G2’s buyer and user data; and what our analysts hear every day. Add leading primary collection, from AI-moderated voice interviews to surveys and analyst-led interviews, all turnkey, and every project comes out credible, nuanced, and actionable.

And we don’t just drop the results in your lap. For internal work, we provide analyst-led sessions, interactive dashboards, and a range of formats. For market-facing work, Futurum delivers turnkey activation and amplification that actually gets seen, by people and by LLMs, through our media and share of voice. This is research that moves decisions and markets.

We will meet you wherever you are, from a fast-turn brief to a multi-year program, and shape the work to your goals, timeline, and budget. The right program for your moment.

If any of this is useful, I would love to talk.
