Analyst Take: The Gizmo 3 Watch, powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 4100+ platform, is an excellent solution for parents who want to ensure their children are safe throughout the day. In fact, we continue to see more parents with younger children entering the workforce due to factors such as inflationary pressures impacting the cost of living, rising costs of education, rising costs of affordable housing, organizations offering remote or hybrid work solutions, and much more.

Parents want to ensure their children are safe emotionally and physically and are calling for software and devices that help them manage their lives in addition to keeping their loved ones safe. Thus, I expect the safety and security aspects of wearable technology to be one of the catalysts of growth for the segment in the future as parents try to ensure their children (and the rest of the family) are safe from trends such as:

  • Exposure to school violence and bullying in schools or online
  • Safety from being exposed to inappropriate content on social media
  • Limiting contact with known and unknown contacts that have poor boundaries
  • Thwart phishing text messages that can expose the rest of the family to attacks
  • Answering calls or posting information on social media for criminals to pick to potentially rob the home

When the Gizmo 3 Watch is paired with the GizmoHub Application installed on the device, parents or guardians can utilize GPS to track and monitor the child’s whereabouts along with setting boundaries and notifications when they arrive at their intended destination. The Gizmo 3 Watch also offers the ability to include more friends and family members than prior Gizmo Watch models. The device also lets the user use the camera to take selfies or quickly video chat with their loved ones. As an example, if the child becomes lost, such as at a theme park, the child can experience less anxiety knowing that the parent is where they can see them on the screen.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 4100+ Platform

To help vendors create wearable devices that provide solid experiences for their partners, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 4100+ Platform (SoC) offers 85% higher performance versus the Snapdragon Wear 3100 SoC, with much faster application launches, a more responsive user interface, and better photos and video experiences.

The SoC is equipped with a 12nm quad-core A53 processor with up to 2.0 GHz that is optimized for the wearable device category. It also includes a 21nm ultra-low power, always-on Cortex M0 processor that works in conjunction with the main processor, which can offload experiences such as biometric monitoring, movement responsiveness, alarms, and more. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 4100+ platform also includes the Adreno 504 GPU with up to 320 MhZ.

From a connectivity perspective, the device includes 4G LTE, Wi-Fi (802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g, and 802.11n), Bluetooth (Bluetooth 4.2 and Bluetooth 5.0), Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and the 8c Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) location capabilities.

Overall, the Verizon Gizmo Watch 3, powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 4100+ platform, is an excellent device that is aimed at helping parents provide wearable technology designed to keep their children safe by helping them load trusted contacts, content, and provide GPS location services to ensure they are where they are supposed to be.
