VMware and McLaren Race to Fuel Multi-cloud Innovation and App Flexibility

Analyst Take: I find the VMware and McLaren Racing alliance well-positioned to raise market awareness towards the criticality of adopting multi-cloud capabilities in the distributed workforce era. Since McLaren Racing is a fixture in the Formula 1 world, VMware gains a high-profile partner that can put the spotlight on the suppleness of the VMware portfolio especially in delivering application optimization and edge connectivity flexibility across multi-cloud environments.

The partnership spotlights why organizations should embrace multi-cloud to fulfill their business outcome objectives in the distributed workforce era. For example, during the F1 season, McLaren Racing needs to run their apps across its own data centers, the public cloud, and at the edge trackside throughout up to 20 countries and 5 continents. This provides VMware a showcase reference to boost broader enterprise adoption of multi-cloud capabilities and demonstrate the importance of these capabilities as it relates to serving distributed workforces, events, or pretty much anything.

The McLaren Racing engagement demonstrates how the VMware portfolio assets, such as VMWare SD-WAN for edge connectivity requirements, and VMware Anywhere Workspace for unified, consistent user experience, can meet challenging distributed workforce demands. From my view, the McLaren Racing win provides additional warrant for VMware’s $449 million acquisition of SD-WAN specialist VeloCloud completed in 2017.

Overall, I anticipate that VMware will expand its ecosystem influence in driving more organizations to adopt multi-cloud implementations with more confidence in supporting the administration and orchestration demands that can help minimize lock-in with a single cloud provider.
