T-Mobile Enlists Key 5G Partners to Take 5G Private Wireless to the Next Level with 5G ANS

The News: T-Mobile is launching its 5G Advanced Network Solutions (ANS) with Dell Technologies, Ericsson, and Nokia, targeting enterprises with providing the 5G performance needed to deliver improved results and customer experiences. T-Mobile Enlists Key 5G Partners to Take 5G Private Wireless to the Next Level with 5G ANS

Analyst Take: T-Mobile is partnering with major 5G ecosystem players, Dell Technologies, Ericsson, and Nokia, to energize and differentiate its 5G private wireless mobile edge compute (MEC) proposition through the launch of 5G ANS. T-Mobile is planning to fulfill expanding enterprise demand for more secure networks, dedicated spectrum, and service level commitments delivered on an on-demand as-a-service basis.

Enlisting major 5G ecosystem partners, such as Dell, Ericsson, and Nokia, is smart. I expect this will help accelerate T-Mobile’s 5G ANS sales cycles throughout the enterprise space. The combined portfolio capabilities of the 5G supplier trio are essential to T-Mobile’s ability to offer public network, hybrid mobile network, and private network options to 5G ANS customers and prospects.

For example, T-Mobile is using Dell’s VxRail hyperconverged infrastructure designed to enable flexible data processing and storage across customer private network and MEC environments according to unique, local requirements. This will also help ease overall data administration, consume hybrid cloud and multi-cloud capabilities according to need, and provide a developer-ready Kubernetes platform capability.

T-Mobile selected Ericsson’s RAN and core equipment to enable flexible 5G ANS network options for enterprise and government customers, expanding on their long-standing, multi-year business relationship. Specifically, T-Mobile deployed an Ericsson-based 5G Hybrid Mobile Network to bring SailGP more reliability and lower latencies across its global sail racing network.

T-Mobile is using Nokia’s equipment and Nokia Digital Automation Cloud Private Network solution to help deliver its hybrid mobile network and private mobile network solutions. The duo collaborated on 5G tests as part of T-Mobile’s 5G Open Innovation Lab to foster ecosystem support for 5G application development. Nokia also recently launched MX Boost, deployed on the Nokia MX Industrial Edge (MXIE), which is designed to flexibly combine multiple radio technologies and spectrum to enable more reliable, high-performance connectivity across mission-critical industrial applications, which I see playing a potential role in evolving 5G ANS deployment scenarios.

From my view, T-Mobile needed to launch 5G ANS and raise the profile of its 5G private networks and MEC portfolio to help counter the 5G private wireless/enterprise edge computing solutions of key mobile service provider rivals such as Verizon, AT&T, and DISH, as well as the private network offerings of hyperscaler cloud players such as AWS and Azure and private wireless specialists like Betacom.

With competition across the 5G private wireless market intensifying, the 5G ANS offering can aid T-Mobile’s strategic priority of expanding its private wireless ecosystem influence and market presence to drive more 5G private networking deployments and innovation. The 5G ANS launch comes on the heels of T-Mobile’s Internet Freedom sales and marketing splash, demonstrating that the Un-carrier is executing on its commitment to consistently deliver mobile and wireless services innovation and disrupt the mobile service provider competitive landscape.
