Not Nothing: Nothing 2 Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC

Analyst Take: The new Nothing 2 premium-based smartphone, launched by Nothing Tech and powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 (4nm) premium-tier mobile platform, should resonate well with users. Nothing Tech opted for the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 versus the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 (its latest generation in the premium tier), targeting users who want a premium device to either level up from a mid-tier phone or buy a premium device that is slightly less expensive since many consumers are feeling the pinch of inflationary pressures.

The Nothing 2

The Nothing 2 device’s starting price of $599 should be attractive to users who want a device that has excellent smartphone functionality for taking photos, videos, mobile gaming, and connectivity that will not break the bank.
Under the hood, the Nothing 2 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 mobile platform, which comes with the ARM Cortex-X2 architecture that is capable of up to 3.2 GHz, the Adreno 730 GPU supporting Vulkan 1.1 API support, OpenGL ES 3.2 and OpenCL 2.0 FP, the Qualcomm Triple 18-bit Spectra image signal processor, the Snapdragon x65 5G Modem-RF for excellent 5G cellular connectivity capable of up to 10 Gbps downlink, and the Qualcomm FastConnect 6900 System for excellent Wi-FI (e.g. Wi-Fi 6E, Wi-FI 5) and integrated Bluetooth 5.3. The mobile platform also includes the Qualcomm Hexagon processor (featuring the Hexagon Tensor Accelerator and other capabilities), which augments the user’s experience with AI by taking more professional photos and videos.

The dimensions of the Nothing 2 are 162.1 x 76.4 x 8.6 mm or 6.38 x 3.01 x 0.34 inches and the device weighs in at just 7.09 ounces (or 201.2 grams). The display is 6.7 inches with 1080 x 2412 pixels and has a refresh rate of 120 Hz. The screen brightness is capable of 1600 nits, and it is also protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass.

The device comes with a dual 50-megapixel wide and ultrawide camera sensor that can also snap videos at 4K at 30/60 frames per second (FPS), and 1080p resolution at 30/60 FPS. The single selfie camera is 32-megapixel featuring HDR and is capable of shooting at 1080p at 30 FPS.
The Nothing 2 comes with a Li-Ion 4700 mAh non-removable battery capable of 45 W wired charging capable of 100% in 55 minutes and 15 W wireless charging capable of 100% in 130 minutes as well as 5W reverse wireless.

The new Nothing 2 device, powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 mobile platform, should be attractive to users wanting a smartphone with premium features at an affordable price, which is key as more consumers have less durable income due to higher inflation.

The vision behind everything in Futurum’s Custom Research practice is this: research should show you what is happening, what comes next, and what to do about it. It should be personal to each audience, easy for people to grasp, and structured so LLMs can reason over it accurately. And it should be fast and turnkey; you want answers now, not another project to carry for quarters.

Whether you are defining business, channel, or go-to-market strategy; evaluating vendors or justifying ROI; or commissioning research to fill an emerging market need, we have your back, with a program that answers your questions with the objectivity and credibility to drive real decisions.

To do it, we bring unmatched data to bear: Futurum research, surveys, and market projections; validated market feeds; ETR’s 15 years of insight from 10,000 technology decision-makers; G2’s buyer and user data; and what our analysts hear every day. Add leading primary collection, from AI-moderated voice interviews to surveys and analyst-led interviews, all turnkey, and every project comes out credible, nuanced, and actionable.

And we don’t just drop the results in your lap. For internal work, we provide analyst-led sessions, interactive dashboards, and a range of formats. For market-facing work, Futurum delivers turnkey activation and amplification that actually gets seen, by people and by LLMs, through our media and share of voice. This is research that moves decisions and markets.

We will meet you wherever you are, from a fast-turn brief to a multi-year program, and shape the work to your goals, timeline, and budget. The right program for your moment.

If any of this is useful, I would love to talk.
