NetApp Analyst Update
NetApp hosted an analyst update on February 29, covering its CloudOps strategy hosted by Haiyan Song, EVP of the CloudOps division. The event covered the well-known offerings including Cloud Insights, Spot, and Instaclustr.
Intelligent Data Infrastructure
NetApp is rolling out a new positioning for the company called intelligent data infrastructure (IDI) that focuses on how the company continues bringing unification, data management, and adaptive operations with intelligence to the market in this age of data. This corporate strategy and architecture are powered by NetApp’s investments in data services, bringing on-premises and cloud together combined with CloudOps solutions.
The journey to CloudOps began many years ago as NetApp moved aggressively to embrace the public cloud, resulting in the strong play as first-party offerings in Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and GCP. It also brought a series of acquisitions that enabled streamlined, cost-effective cloud operations into the fold.
Today, the strategy is to leverage those offerings to streamline data management further and optimize the whole data infrastructure. Cloud Insights has become a powerful tool for analyzing the data infrastructure and managing/optimizing for most application environments. Originating as an SRM offering, NetApp has successfully built Cloud Insights into a powerhouse for heterogeneous data management on- and off-premises.
Instaclustr
Instaclustr is an API-based tool that streamlines provisioning and orchestration especially in the open-source container environment. Where does this fit into the overall data infrastructure? In a world where DevOps is driving the use of tools and deployments, ease of use (including access), is a requirement for staff efficiencies. There is more production by streamlining the access for app development, but the ITOps can better manage maintenance and updates. It also has impacts on availability operations and is now involved in setting parameters of use. Most highly needed in the space is a service often called database as a service, where DevOps select the database of their choice within the specifications set and are instantly provisioned with the underlying data infrastructure. For NetApp, the benefit is driving more use of its systems.
Optimizing operational effectiveness by leveraging cutting-edge technologies and intelligent algorithms, Instaclustr enhances the efficiency and scalability of workloads, ensuring seamless performance across diverse environments. With a focus on automation and intelligent orchestration, Instaclustr empowers organizations to unlock the full potential of their applications while mitigating operational overhead. Through strategic partnerships and a relentless pursuit of innovation, Instaclustr continues to redefine the boundaries of AI-driven workload management, ushering in a new era of productivity and agility in the digital world.

As NetApp moves this year, we are encouraged by its new positioning and how CloudOps will be integrated into the core of the business. In the past, this group had often operated with separate sales and only sometimes benefited from the power of the entire sales force. NetApp laid out six use cases for IDI. Of the six, we can clearly see how the messaging and value of the CloudOps portfolio strengthens NetApp’s position.
