The News: IonQ (NYSE: IONQ) announced Q2 FY 2026 revenue of $80.1 million, up 287% year-on-year (YoY), compared with Wall Street consensus of $66.4 million. International revenue represented about 50% of total revenue, commercial revenue represented about 60%, and multi-product revenue represented about 25%. Adjusted EBITDA loss was $120.3 million, compared with an adjusted EBITDA loss of $36.5 million in Q2 FY 2025. Adjusted EBITDA included costs tied to IonQ’s commercial relationship with SkyWater, and adjusted EBITDA loss would have been $95.6 million, excluding that spend. Adjusted EPS was a loss of $0.33, compared with an adjusted EPS loss of $0.08 in Q2 FY 2025.

Analyst Take: IonQ’s Q2 FY 2026 results show a company moving beyond a single quantum computing story into a broader quantum platform model. The quarter was shaped by deployed systems, higher international exposure, and a widening product base across compute, security, networking, sensing, and space-based communications. The SkyWater acquisition adds a manufacturing layer that will become central to IonQ’s supply chain strategy. The open question is how quickly IonQ can convert technical milestones into recurring, higher-margin customer adoption.

Semiconductor Roadmap Moves Into Execution

IonQ’s semiconductor-based quantum roadmap moved closer to execution with fully featured quantum processing units returned from SkyWater and now under test at IonQ’s College Park facility. The company tied this progress to its shift from laser-based control to electronic qubit control, which it sees as the path to scaling trapped ion systems toward much higher qubit counts. IonQ continues to target 256-qubit technology with commissioning planned in FY 2027, while also advancing work toward a 10,000-qubit system.

The company also cited prior 99.99% two-qubit gate fidelity results and new quantum error correction progress on a Tempo engineering test system. These results give enterprise and government customers proof that quantum systems can move from lab performance toward production systems. IonQ’s near-term execution now rests on converting chip validation into deployable systems at a repeatable manufacturing cadence.

SkyWater Expands IonQ’s Merchant Supplier Model

The $1.8 billion SkyWater acquisition changes IonQ’s position in the quantum value chain by bringing design, fabrication, packaging, and deployment under a U.S.-based structure. IonQ plans to support its own roadmap while also supplying other quantum companies across modalities such as ions, atoms, superconductors, photonics, sensors, and networks. SkyWater had already supported IonQ’s semiconductor roadmap through a commercial relationship, with IonQ estimating FY 2026 SkyWater-related spending of about $120 million before consolidation.

The Nexus Photonics acquisition adds integrated photonics capabilities that can support chip-scale lasers, modulators, and optical subsystems. IonQ is positioning these assets as part of a quantum photonics foundry offering through SkyWater. The merchant supplier strategy gives IonQ a second path to market beyond selling its own quantum systems.

Quantum Security Demand Becomes More Strategic

Quantum security became a larger part of IonQ’s strategic narrative as customers assess risks tied to future cryptographically relevant quantum systems. The company launched ClavisXG Multiplex, a quantum key distribution product designed to support physics-based key distribution on existing network infrastructure. IonQ is also positioning post-quantum cryptography, quantum key distribution, and network vulnerability assessment as connected parts of a broader security stack.

Security interest is progressing beyond government buyers into data-heavy industries, including financial services, where exposure to future encryption risk is more direct. Multi-product revenue grew 40% YoY and represented about 25% of Q2 FY 2026 revenue, with compute and security emerging as a natural cross-sell pair. Quantum security may become IonQ’s next demand catalyst if CIOs and national security buyers move from risk assessment to procurement.

Guidance and Final Thoughts

IonQ raised its FY 2026 revenue outlook to $280 million to $290 million, compared with its prior outlook of $260 million to $270 million and Bloomberg consensus of $268.3 million. The updated outlook excludes any contribution from SkyWater after the acquisition close. IonQ also reiterated its expectation for 100% organic revenue growth in FY 2026, supported by quantum computer deployments and ongoing platform demand. Remaining performance obligations ended Q2 FY 2026 at $485 million, up from $122 million one year earlier, giving the company more forward revenue visibility.

IonQ is broadening its ambitions from a quantum computing vendor to a diversified quantum infrastructure company spanning hardware, security, networking, and manufacturing. That strategy could create multiple long-term revenue streams, but it also increases execution complexity as the company integrates acquisitions and scales semiconductor-based systems. The next phase will depend on whether IonQ can translate technical milestones and platform breadth into repeatable commercial deployments while maintaining momentum across its expanding product portfolio.
