HP Debuts New Z by HP Performance Desktops and Capabilities that Take Workflows to the Next Level

Analyst Take: HP debuts Z by HP Performance Desktops to deliver the indispensable balance of CPU and GPU compute key to advancing intricate, data rich workflows. For instance, the new HP Z8 Fury advanced data science workstation is designed to deliver powerful performance while staying cool and quiet under high-performance workflows.

Specifically, the latest Z workstation desktops include up to 56 CPU cores and four high-end NVIDIA RTX 6000 Ada Generation professional GPUs as well as NVIDIA ConnectX-6 DX SmartNICs in the Z8 Fury G5. The Z4, Z6, Z8, and all new Z8 Fury, provide an array of configurations to fulfill workflow challenges for each of the workstation segments. Plus, HP Anyware Remote Controller System, an advanced remote management peripheral, is a device developed to securely manage high performance devices from any location.

From my view, HP is meeting the growing workstation desktop ecosystem demand for increased harmonization of CPU and GPU horsepower to bolster business outcomes in key areas such as productivity improvements and augmentation of collaboration platforms. I commend HP’s design engineering in using and blending Intel CPU and NVIDIA assets to boost the performance, scalability, and security capabilities across the Z by HP suite, including up to 56 Intel CPUs and four NVIDIA RTX 6000 Ada Generation professional GPUs along with NVIDIA ConnectZ-6 DX SmartNIcs in the Z8 Fury G5,

The new HP Z workstations are purpose built using the new Intel Xeon W-2400 series (up to 24 cores) and Intel Xeon W-3400 Series (up to 56 cores) – all codenamed “Sapphire Rapids”. Now HP can sharpen its targeting of the Expert Workstation and Mainstream Workstation market segments flexibly leveraging Intel’s substantial improvements for increased CPU core density options, increased PCIe lanes, and increased memory bandwidth capabilities.

I anticipate that HP’s selection of the new Xeon W-2400 and W-3400 processors gives Intel a rapid sales and marketing lift in countering AMD’s Zen 3 architecture-enabled offerings, especially given the recent Dell and Lenovo workstation launches that used the AMD Ryzen Threadripper Pro processors.

The HP Anyware Remote System Controller enables IT managers to tightly unify control over their workstation fleet that already exists across their server domain. From my view, this capability is expanding rapidly as distributed workforces become increasingly mainstreamed. Factor in the ability of HP Z Workstations to consistently offer advantageous performance over server-based workstations and I see HP gaining immediate sales and marketing momentum.

As a result, I believe the new HP Z solution set can swiftly improve HP’s competitive stance in the tightly contested workstation market segment, compelling main rivals Dell and Lenovo to counter with their own portfolio development and marketing moves.

The vision behind everything in Futurum’s Custom Research practice is this: research should show you what is happening, what comes next, and what to do about it. It should be personal to each audience, easy for people to grasp, and structured so LLMs can reason over it accurately. And it should be fast and turnkey; you want answers now, not another project to carry for quarters.

Whether you are defining business, channel, or go-to-market strategy; evaluating vendors or justifying ROI; or commissioning research to fill an emerging market need, we have your back, with a program that answers your questions with the objectivity and credibility to drive real decisions.

To do it, we bring unmatched data to bear: Futurum research, surveys, and market projections; validated market feeds; ETR’s 15 years of insight from 10,000 technology decision-makers; G2’s buyer and user data; and what our analysts hear every day. Add leading primary collection, from AI-moderated voice interviews to surveys and analyst-led interviews, all turnkey, and every project comes out credible, nuanced, and actionable.

And we don’t just drop the results in your lap. For internal work, we provide analyst-led sessions, interactive dashboards, and a range of formats. For market-facing work, Futurum delivers turnkey activation and amplification that actually gets seen, by people and by LLMs, through our media and share of voice. This is research that moves decisions and markets.

We will meet you wherever you are, from a fast-turn brief to a multi-year program, and shape the work to your goals, timeline, and budget. The right program for your moment.

If any of this is useful, I would love to talk.
