DataCore Announces Enhancements to SANsymphony and Swarm

Analyst Take: DataCore recently announced upcoming enhancements to both its block storage solution, SANsymphony, and its object storage offering, Swarm. The new updates are announced to be coming in January 2024 in SANsymphony version 10.0 and Swarm version 16.

The main announcement around SANsymphony is the addition of Adaptive Data Placement. The Adaptive Data Placement functionality looks to address data placement challenges and the balance between optimizing performance and capacity. The Adaptive Data Placement capability addresses the issue of hot and cold data at the block level rather than by LUN. SANsymphony continuously monitors data temperature (or access frequency) and automatically moves data between tiers. The capability addresses auto-tiering and data reduction at a granular level for increased performance and cost savings. The SANsymphony update also includes additional functionality such as compressed snapshots and advanced admin settings.

The update around DataCore Swarm is focused on addressing edge-based object storage deployments. Swarm has been containerized and will be available as a single server deployment to provide simplicity and flexibility in smaller deployments and at the edge. Swarm has typically been deployed in larger, core data center deployments, and this update allows DataCore to expand Swarm’s footprint by providing object storage at the edge. The Swarm update also notably includes integration with Veritas NetBackup. With significant updates coming to both SANsymphony and Swarm, DataCore appears to be starting 2024 on a strong note.
