Microsoft Copilot in Viva Glint Heading to Private Preview

The News: In a recent blog post, Microsoft announced the addition of Copilot in Viva Glint. This capability will be available in private preview this month and will bring benefit to human resources (HR) professional as they seek to develop insights into employee feedback. More information can be found on the Microsoft website.

Analyst Take: Making sense of employee feedback is a pain point for many HR professionals. While survey capabilities have broadened, the ability to leverage that data is often at odds with the mundane task of going through comments. Tools that can support those efforts will result in faster action, which is critical if companies are working to build trust and engagement with their workforce.

Microsoft announced that Copilot will be coming to Microsoft Viva earlier in 2023, which has come to fruition with this private preview, Copilot/Glint announcement. Viva Glint officially joined the Viva suite in July 2023. Glint was brought into the Microsoft fold through the 2016 acquisition of LinkedIn and already has a strong user base. Adding Glint to the Viva Suite strengthened the other feedback tools found within the Insights portion of Viva, which also includes Viva Pulse and Viva Insights, each bringing their own unique benefit to the feedback loop.

Copilot Takes the Pain Out of Survey Response Summary

The layering in of Copilot aims to help HR leaders get a faster picture of how employees are feeling by providing short but accurate natural language summaries.

Users can employ a question and response format, asking for comments to be compiled and summarized across all survey items. These queries can get extremely specific. An example Microsoft gave is a question such as: What are the new employees on the global marketing team who work remotely in North America saying about clarity? A more specific view can be seen by double-clicking into specific groups and teams, leveraging filters. Right now, the preview version has the following capabilities to summarize:

  • All comments
  • Comments by survey item
  • Comments by sentiment
  • Comments by filter attribute
  • Prescriptive comments
  • English comments (with language expansion a top priority)

Microsoft is still gathering feedback on the functionality from those participating in the private preview. Customers who might be interested in this preview must already be on the Viva Glint platform and have survey comment data on the platform.

Viva Enhancements Coming This Year

Currently, Viva consists of apps for employee communications and communities, workplace analytics and feedback, goal setting and management, and learning and knowledge management. Aside from the enhancements to Viva Glint, in November, Microsoft teased new capabilities that will also be coming to the platform in 2024, all aimed at connecting Viva apps together to provide more benefit:

  • The ability to publish from Viva Amplify to Viva Engage, allowing content to be published to an employee community or a company leader’s storyline
  • A cross-suite integration that allows customers to build communities around goals and view goal progress from Viva Goals right into Viva Engage
  • The ability to send a pulse survey from either Viva Glint or Viva Insights; users will also be able to send a templated pulse survey from Viva Insights
  • The ability to combine workplace analytics from Viva Insights and employee feedback from Glint, enabling a more encompassing view of employees’ experiences with the company

All solid features, with the added benefit of Viva being available and a part of many employees’ daily workflows and technology interactions.
