Microsoft Introduces its Updated Budget-Friendly Surface Laptop Go 2

Analyst Take: Microsoft’s updated, budget-friendly Surface Laptop Go 2 targets hybrid workers, students, and consumers looking for good performance at a great price. The updated Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 2 is an excellent device for organizations and consumers needing a notebook that is not only budget-friendly, but which also offers solid features for office productivity and collaboration.

I see the Surface Laptop Go 2 as being very attractive to the K-12 education market, non-profits, and organizations with distributed workforces who don’t require extreme processing power. A perfect example would be a remote customer service agent using cloud-based CRM on calls all day inputting customer notes. Another scenario that makes sense is hybrid workers or field sales reps needing a lightweight system featuring longer battery life. The Surface Laptop Go 2 notebook might also be a good alternative to education institutions that may be in the process of upgrading notebooks for students and instructional staff that are close to the price range of Chromebooks.

On the consumer front, it makes sense that Microsoft ‘s Surface Laptop Go 2 notebook is also targeted to consumers who need a PC with solid functionality, but which will not break the bank. This could be particularly attractive as the global economy faces inflationary pressures, and as disposable incomes might be under pressure.

From a functionality perspective, there are a myriad of features in the Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 2 that I think will resonate with business-to-business and business-to-consumer customers about the updated system(s). The new systems include Intel’s 11th Generation Core i5 processor, coupled with either 4 gigabytes or 8 gigabytes of LPDDR4x RAM. If you’re not doing a tremendous amount of multitasking (and can resist having 40 open browser tabs or multiple apps open simultaneously), this is the right processing power.

I also like the diversity of colors available and think that will be an attractive selling point. Battery life has up to 13.5 hours, a slight improvement over the previous generation of 13 hours, which is perfect for students or hybrid workers on the go.

All in all, I see the budget-friendly Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 2 as an excellent option for both businesses and consumers.
