Huawei OceanStor 9000 Scale-Out NAS System – Product Brief

The Huawei OceanStor 9000 Scale-out NAS storage system is a high-end system with extensive features and capabilities supporting both object and file access. Huawei offers systems that are primarily block storage that also support file access but the 9000 is primarily a NAS system with object access support that scales extremely large. The N9000 is a scale-out distributed filesystem architecture with the ability to scale from 3 to 288 nodes where a node is a single controller that is an Intel server platform running the OceanStor software.

In implementing the OceanStor 9000, Huawei has used Wushan file system that has been renamed OceanStor Distributed File System (DFS). Each node contains storage, which can vary by device type and number of devices. Nodes can be configured as capacity or performance nodes.

NAS protocols of NFS, CIFS, FTP and HTTP are support by the 9000. Protocols for object access are through S3 and Swift.

Advanced features of the OceanStor 9000 system come from those offered by the NAS system and most are extra cost features. The NAS functions include file system snapshots, tiering across different data types and nodes, quota management, load balancing, NDMP and WORM support.
