FalconStor StorGuard – Product Brief

The FalconStor StorGuard (formerly Network Storage Server (StorGuard)) is a storage solution that allows heterogeneous server and storage attachment with a wide range of data services. Support for multiple storage protocols, including Fibre Channel (FC) and Internet Small Computer Systems Interface (iSCSI) from the same storage pool as virtual logical unit numbers (LUNs) for servers, is accomplished through the storage area network (SAN) virtualization capabilities introduced with the software.

StorGuard is a product that built on the original software called IPSTOR. StorGuard contains a new implementation that FalconStor calls the Intelligent Abstraction engine. The advanced features offered by FalconStor have been integrated into StorGuard.

FalconStor StorGuard services include high availability (clustering), synchronous and asynchronous mirroring, remote replication, snapshot (point-in-time) copy, dynamic multi-pathing, and change-journaling (TimeMark). The software can be installed on Intel-based server(s) and runs on a modified Linux operating system (OS). Host attachment to the StorGuard includes any servers that support FC, iSCSI, or InfiniBand. Device attachments include any standards-compliant storage array.

Centralized monitoring of multiple systems increases the management capability. There are iPhone and Android apps for monitoring. The graphical user interface (GUI) includes customizable dashboards.

Operational analytics called Predictive Analytics provide some SRM features for capacity and performance planning.
