Grow with Google is designed to help jumpstart the economy by helping workers learn skills that will make them more appealing to employers (college degrees not required), and also to help employers fill what is often a gigantic skills gap. As part of this initiative, Google is offering grants, offering apprenticeship positions at Google, expanding its IT Certificate Employer Consortium and more. The future of work continues to be about an always-learning mindset, individually and in the business world, and this is another way Big Tech is stepping up to make that possible.
What we see with Release 16, in addition to improvements to previous fundamental standards, is a shift towards the next market for 5G technologies: industrial networks and applications. That is why, MIMO and IAB improvements aside, private networks, unlicensed spectrum, multi-TRP architecture, high-precision device positioning, efficient new power-saving protocols, and even multicasting between vehicles, constitute the lion’s share of projects in this release.
Amazon recently announced that AWS IoT SiteWise will be available to all AWS customers in certain regions soon. SiteWise is a managed service that gathers and organizes data in a way that helps industrial customers make informed decisions when it comes to monitoring facility operations, making new applications, improving production, determining performance metrics, and more. We expect to be hearing much more about AWS IoT SiteWise in the months to come.
In this episode of the Futurum Tech Webcast, analysts Fred McClimans and Shelly Kramer explore the topic of future proofing the enterprise in ways that truly transform operations (think supply chain, data center operations, security operations and beyond) in order to make the business as a whole more resilient and more agile moving forward.

The aggregated licensing revenue for the mobile industry in 2018 amounted to roughly $10 billion. That comes to less than 1% of the $1.2+ trillion in annual revenue from handsets, infrastructure, and operator revenue combined. Additionally, it constitutes a mere fraction of 1% when you also include the overall benefit and productivity gains from mobile technologies, which amounted to over $4 trillion in value that year.
HPE is expanding its remote work and branch capabilities with the acquisition of Silver Peak, adding to its Aruba Networks offering in the space.
Available in alpha on Google Compute Engine just over a month after its introduction, A100 has come to the cloud faster than any NVIDIA GPU in history.
Siemens and Salesforce have partnered to provide an innovative workplace technology suite that allows employees to safely come back to work in physical offices and sets the stage for a next generation framework for the future of work. Siemens and Salesforce will first deploy this workplace offering in their own offices, including Siemens Smart Infrastructure headquarters in Zug, Switzerland, and Salesforce Tower in San Francisco. We are looking forward to hearing the results from these first deployments.
HP has recently announced some new efforts aimed at helping students and educators, along with businesses and families. Printable resources, expanded partnerships to offer free learning resources globally, some awesome new printers, and an ink subscription program that claims it’ll save consumers money over the long run. It’s nice to see HP continuing to innovate and educate, which have long been the foundation upon which this company was built. I’m guessing this will pay off in the long run.
