Wainhouse Releases Q4 and Full Year 2022 Online Meeting Market SpotCheck

Analyst Take: Wainhouse this week released its Q4 and full year 2022 Online Meeting Market SpotCheck, a quarterly analysis of revenue and licenses for the online meeting market. The early days of the Covid-19 pandemic ushered in a shift of the Online Meetings market from standalone licenses to bundles of services. IT leaders needed fast solutions, and many of the bundled solutions were already in-house.

In 2022, as hybrid work models became a more permanent fixture in our collective working model and communications workloads were further commoditized, the bundled model gained further traction. Today, all vendors have created a bundle and are busy migrating their existing base to the higher value, commonly lower cost, bundles.

This move toward bundles played to the strengths of Microsoft, but as the year went on, enterprise calling took a more central role in the communications decisions of enterprises, and as we enter 2023, RingCentral and the other phone-first vendors appear poised to retake some of the market share lost as Microsoft has ascended.

This is the last quarterly Market SpotCheck report that will address the separate workload of online meetings. Starting with our Q1 2023 report, the focus will shift to a single data gathering and estimation model for Communications Platforms.

The Enterprise Calling and Online Meetings product development, buying decisions, and licensing models are increasingly consolidated, and our reporting and analysis will reflect the realities in the market. While we will estimate and size the market at the platform license level, we will remain connected to the dynamics in each underlying workload (meetings, calling, and messaging) and intend to report on monthly active users of each within the population of platform licenses.
