This document is an analysis of the Hitachi Protection Platform backup appliances, the S2700 for the central datacenter and DR site(s), and the S1500 for the remote office/branch office (ROBO).
These appliances are successors to the Sepaton line of products following the acquisition of Sepaton by HDS in August 2014. The S2700 competes at the high end with products from EMC, HP, IBM, NEC, and Quantum. The S1500, made generally available in June 2015, is a new addition to the product line.
