San Francisco, California-based Scality was founded in 2009. It released its first and core product, an object storage platform called RING, in 2013. This Evaluator Group Product Brief covers Scality’s Zenko data controller; we cover RING in more detail in a separate Product Brief and Product Analysis.
Scality Zenko was first launched in 2017. It is made up of a stack of microservices that facilitate data management, governance and search/visualization across multi-cloud environments, both on-premises and in the public cloud.
The core microservice of Zenko is CloudServer, an open-source implementation of the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Simple Storage Service (S3) application programming interface (API) in the form of an object storage server. Zenko CloudServer translates S3 API calls into actions across various on-premises storage infrastructures and public cloud services. It allows data to be stored natively, and then accessed and acted on directly from wherever it is stored. Effectively, Zenko CloudServer becomes the centralized vehicle allowing data to be retrieved, manipulated, migrated/tiered and searched across multiple clouds. Supported targets are: S3 object stores including Amazon S3, Scality RING, Wasabi, and Ceph RADOS Gateway; Scality RING Scale-Out File System (SOFS); and other Network File System (NFS) systems.
