Scality ARTESCA represents an evolution for object storage that is meeting new and differing demands with Cloud Native Applications. With ARTESCA, Scality has added a new and complementary solution to their existing object storage with a system designed specifically to meet these new requirements.
Demand for object storage has expanded beyond the large repositories of information to being a target for Cloud Native Applications. This new usage has different requirements: a single, uniform storage interface for use in central IT, cloud, and edge environments to ensure application portability and development efficiency, a Kubernetes-based design, and performance with response time required by Cloud Native Applications. Scaling ARTESCA starts with a relatively modest amount of capacity on a single server with the ability to grow in measured increments as demand increases.
The focus for new usage is aligned with the need for container support and for specific usages such as a backup target for Veeam and potentially other vendor software. Operating in a container environment is becoming more critical as Cloud Native Applications are predominately container-based. Scality ARTESCA was designed as container-native object storage software, supporting the new environments.
