Micro Focus Storage operations manager (formerly HP Storage Operations Manager) is an enterprise class storage resource management solution with extensive monitoring and reporting for the storage environment including switches, SAN storage systems and NAS systems. The solution was derived from the HP Network Node Manager code base and replaced HP Storage Essentials. Micro Focus purchased several of the storage related software assets from HP.
As a storage resource management solution, Storage Operations Manager has multiple usages for administrators in addition to the standard reporting and monitoring functions:
- Analytics to predict potential problems
- Visualization of environment and management oftopology.
- Change management control
- Consolidation of storage events
- Reporting
- Trend analysis
Storage Operations Manager does information collection and system monitoring to provide an extensive and customizable set of reports, dashboards, and threshold alerting. Discovery can be agentless using the IP address or, for greater detail, agents can be deployed. Threshold and problem alerting is done through email and SNMP traps.
The monitoring and reporting on the storage environment can be presented with customizable dashboards and reports. The reporting functionality includes:
- Capacity – current status and trending
- Storage system availability and status
- Storage device and LUN status
- File system status
- Performance details by device, LUN, file system with trending information
