IBM Storage Protect Plus is the modern complement to IBM Storage Protect (formerly Tivoli Storage Manager and, more recently, Spectrum Protect; see The Futurum Group’s separate Storage Protect Product Brief).
Storage Protect Plus was designed to protect and recover virtualized environments; today, the product supports applications, containers, databases, files, and virtual machines (VMs). IBM Storage Protect Plus also enables the reuse of secondary datasets for purposes other than data protection.
In March 2023, the product was re-branded from IBM Spectrum Protect Plus, as a part of the company’s efforts to streamline and simplify its portfolio branding, and as a step towards its ultimate architectural vision of delivering a set of data services unified by a common control plane, deployable on any underlying infrastructure.
Usage and Deployment
IBM Storage Protect Plus software can protect a range of sources including physical and virtual databases, containers, and on-premises applications, across multiple sites. It is most commonly deployed by large enterprises but also can address the requirements of comparatively smaller-scale organizations.
