Object storage is in its second generation of technology with implementations dealing with scale in the number and size of information elements that are increasingly challenging Information Technology operations and are the fundamental issues for cloud-based storage.  Sometimes included in defining the popular marketing term “web-scale,” object storage has the capability to address the billions and billions of pieces of information that must be stored and managed.
