Cisco HyperFlex is a purpose-built Hyperconverged Infrastructure (HCI) appliance that runs the company’s proprietary software-defined storage software on UCS x86-based server hardware with internal hard disk and flash storage capacity. Multiple modules or nodes are connected via dedicated UCS Fabric Interconnect switches into a cluster, aggregating storage resources into a virtual pool and sharing them with VMs supported by an embedded hypervisor. HyperFlex provides a standardized, agile infrastructure for supporting a wide range of potential use cases including VDI, server virtualization, databases, ROBO and private cloud, to name a few.
Competitors selling HCI appliances, include Dell EMC VxRail, Nutanix Cloud Platform, HPE SimpliVity Scale Computing, VMware vSAN Ready Nodes and others. These and the other leading products are included in the Evaluator Group Research Hyperconverged comparison matrix and associated Product Briefs and Analyses.
